Vita

Dr Madalina Chitez has been a Senior Researcher at the Language Competence Centre of the Zurich University of Applied Science, Switzerland, since October 2010. In 2011, she finished her doctoral studies in English Linguistics at the University of Freiburg, Germany, with specialization in corpus linguistics. In her doctoral dissertation, she collected and evaluated a corpus of student academic writing texts from Romanian universities. Her book Learner corpus profiles: The case of Romanian Learner English aims at exemplifying the methodology of learner corpus profiling through semi-automatic extraction of the lexico-grammatical profiles of student texts. One of her current research projects is Thesis Writer. The project focuses on the creation, testing and implementation of an electronic tool that can be employed in research-based writing. Another ongoing project in which she is fully involved is Literacy for Entrepreneurship, the objective of which is to provide a linguistic description of text genres and the relationship between read and written texts used in the context of entrepreneurship--from a corpus-driven perspective.

She has published several articles in the area of academic writing and corpus linguistics and co-edited two books (one in press) describing the situation of academic writing educational offers and research initiatives in Europe, and particularly in eastern and central Europe. Her fields of interest include: academic writing, corpus linguistics, contrastive rhetoric, and computer-assisted language learning.
